In response to Re: Squeaky, Creaky Acrylic Tub
: I'm renovating my bathroom in an older high-rise building. About 2 weeks ago a new acrylic tub was installed (brand = "Hytec - a Kohler Company").

: After about 1-1/2 weeks the tub suddenly developed a significant creaking sound when I step in. I discussed this with the plumbing company that did the installation, and was told that it is quite common for acrylic tubs to settle or warp after installation.

: The plumber is returning this week for some other work, and they told me that they will try to shim under the tub with lead shims (the wall opening at the drain end from the adjacent room is still open).

: My questions:
: - How common is this problem with acrylic tubs?
: - Will the lead shim solution likely solve the problem?

: Thanks very much for any comments.

Setting acrylic in mortar is required in many installation instructions. I do it regardless.
Does your unit require or suggest a mortar bed? I could not find installation instructions for Hytech on their web site.
Shims after the tub has been set have not worked for me. LonnythePlumber
I have not had luck with shims.
