Tile over vinyl flooring?

I am tiling my kitchen with 12" marble tiles. The current floor in vinyl over concrete. Do I have to remove the vinyl or can I tile right over it? If I can tile over it do I need to sand it or some other prep?

Also, I am planning to use no spacers and then a sandless grout. What are the pros and cons of this method?
