If you are talking about replacing the Roman tub faucet - this means the entire assambly BELOW the tub deck - of course it does not matter.
But if you think you can just replace the trim ( the handles and spout) you have only a few choices. It will have to be the same brand for sure; and your choices of models and finishes will be limited depending on the brand and how old your unit is.
