|In response to Re: Septic Systems & Feminine Hygiene Products|
: I need to know the impact of tampons, pads and liners on an on-site septic system. The system was installed in the late 60's or early 70's. I don't think it has baffles but not sure. I'm concerned with floating objects plugging the drain field. If this is a real problem, what are realistic alternatives to flushing them. It's hard to imagine, and I don't think I've ever seen, a seperate recepticle for these products. Are there any retrofit solutions. It does concern me but I really don't want to inconvenience family and guests or make them feel uncomfortable. This is our first septic system so I apologize if this is a silly question.
It would be very foolish to have these go into a septic tank, etc. You will be looking for trouble eventually if you do ,and costly too. These "items" do not break down like other "solids" that are meant to go into the tank.. Hube
