: : Has anyone had any problems with Americast tubs? Would you recommend a good acrylic/fiberglas tub over Americast? An installer told me he has seen a few of the hundreds he has installed, collapse after 3-4 years. He now only will install acrylic/fiberglas with mortar bedding.

: : He also told me that there is no way to repair a chipped Americast tub that is off-white. Is this true? Are these tubs easy to chip?

: : Thanks for your help!!

: I have had problems with Americast and will not install them. My experience is they do chip easy. However other posters are reporting good experience. One even prefers these steel coated tubs and charges almost $3,000.00 a change out. LonnythePlumber

I installed an Americast tub in 1996. The plastic "casing" cracked 2 years ago, and it's caused leaks around the drain. It is easier to chip and scratch than the tub it replaced. (I know this because it has a bunch of chips and scratches!) I have not tried to repair the finish. I wouldn't buy another one.
