Thanks, Clayton. Piano wire is a good hint. Also
thanks to hj and jimbo. The sink is actually on the tile
and all this has been there probably since 1971.
There seems to be a thin layer underneath the sink
to hold it in. After peeling the silicone I found
what looks like plumbers putty. It has hardened a
lot over the years.
