flooded basement again

In 1992, we added a family room and basement addition to our ranch house. The house was built over crawl space. We have properties on two sides that runoff flows from. The rest of our property is fairly level. The problem is, I think the water table is always fairly high here, and in spite of a lot of drainage tile around and under the addition, we are prone to flooding in the event of heavy rain, or malfunction of the sump pump or if we lose power. We do have a back up, but it has never worked properly. My question is, is it possible to somehow connect some serious piping to the sump pump and send all drain water to a tank of some kind buried in the yard. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
