: I have a new (last month) Maytag water heater, and suddenly have a rotten egg smell in my water. Was told that it was due to the magnesium rod in the tank and that I needed to remove it. Now, I already have a water softener cause the water here is so hard it's orange without it, so I don't think I need to worry about rusting, but I still have the smell, just not as strong. What can I do to fix this? Other than taking the rod out, which I did. Thanks! Reply: Have your water treatment co. check your system to make sure it's operating correctly. e-plumber
