: i have a pre existing rubber hose installed for a drain for a dishwasher. my question is can i insert the new plastic drain hose into the old rubber hose and clamp it off ?

As long as you're inserting the new hose into the existing one, it should work, you're not restricting flow.
What you will need to do though is insert a small piece of (1'2"?) pipe into the hose before you clamp it or else it will collapse the hose and leak. Make sure the connection will be accessible in case of failure.
Good Luck. e-plumber
