: Hi, : I am remodeling my master bathroom. I want to install a shower where the tub once was, and tub where the shower once was. The existing drain for the old tub was 1 1/2", but the code for shower is 2". My plumbing inspector said he would let me use the 1 1/2" for the shower. My question is whether or not the 1 1/2" will be adequate for the shower. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks. : Mike Water needs to run away from your feet for health reasons and to help keep the shower clean. 2" is a value. Additionally soap builds up in a shower's tailpiece restricting drainage. A 2" tailpiece provides better flow. LonnythePlumber |
