The first thing would be to assume the valve was doing its job by releasing excess temperature and/or pressure. Only after you have determined that the heater did not malfunction, should you assume a bad T&P valve and replace it. : I have a gas water heater and last night I noticed that I had hot water continuely running out of the temp pressure relief valve pipe. I turned the inlet water off and it stopped, other than replacing the TPR valve what else could it be and how can it be fixed.
