The majority of the time when the valve leaks if you use the old nut and ring, it is either because the old one had a different thread than the new one, or the copper tubing was damaged when the original valve was installed. In either case you have to either work the old nut and ring off or cut them off assuming there is enough tubing sticking out to do so.

: The shut off valve supplying water to my toilet is leaking. I removed the old valve but could not remove the old ring and nut on the copper pipe. I installed the new valve (with the old ring and nut) but the leak worsen. Need advise on how to proceed.
