|In response to Re: Replacing Water Shut Off Valve|
: The shut off valve supplying water to my toilet is leaking. I removed the old valve but could not remove the old ring and nut on the copper pipe. I installed the new valve (with the old ring and nut) but the leak worsen. Need advise on how to proceed.
My reply: Do you have enought pipe sticking out so you can cut off the pipe right at the spot where the stuck ring is so as to eliminate the old ring. Then clean up the stub good and install new valve, new compression ring and nut. Otherwise, you can try working the ring with channel locks to see if it moves (rotates) on the pipe. If it moves, there is a possibility that you can work if off. Good Luck!
