|In response to Re: heat cast iron joint or dig out?|
I think I saw a posting that stated there's a gasket kit or something that should marry with the flanged end of the cast iron pipe. If you have thoughts, I'd appreciate hearing them.
: If the pipe is vertical dig it out. If it is horizontal heat it. But have you figured out how you are going to connect the PVC to the cast iron hub after you remove the lead?
: : My washer drains into a cast iron pipe with a sharp bending trap and then goes directly into one of the main vertical waste pipes in my house. It slows regularly and water overflows into my basement. I'm thinking of removing the cast iron and replacing with PVC. Should I heat the cast iron joint or dig it out?
