Sounds like a bearing. Depending on model number of pump would matter on rebuilding or replacement. I had a bid from a contractor for bearing replacement on B&G 1510 series pump. New pump is only about $700 more and I will look at that more closely next week when I go back to work. Small unit such as series 100, I'd look at replacing unit. B&G has everything available online at their site for much more info.
