It may work if you have a way to remove the water and dirt that is washed back into the holes. If you are in an area that requires the pipes to be buried deeply because of the frost level, then most plumbers will have a method of jacking, or otherwise, pushing/pulling the new pipe into place.
: Rather than digging an entire trench to expose the old water main, I'd like to dig 5 ft holes and use my pressure washer to blast the soil away between the 5 ft holes. Is this a good idea ?
