|In response to Re: Tips on opening old canister typer drain trap|
: Drain from the washer is clogged- probably too much dog hair and lint. The trap is a vertical canister - looks like cast iron- with a clean out on top with the 1.5 inch square. My house is from 1921, and for all I know it hasn't been touched since then. I tried liquid wrench and a 14 inch pipe wrench, but can't budge the thing. Does anyone have any tips before I get a 3' pipe section to help the wrench out? Would heat help? Thanks.
Heat the cap, then as it is hot add candle wax then it should unscrew very easily.
IF this should fail Carefully cut out the old cap and replace same when finished or just replace the trap completely.
