The vent depending on your local code will need to be 1 1/2 to 2 inch pipe and located within 10 feet of the toilet drain. You may tie it into an existing vent at least 42 inches above the highest draining fixture connected to that drain pipe.

: i'm buiding a new bathroom on the first floor. do i need to have a separate vent teed off from the waste line of this toilet if there is already a vent at a septic tank. i'm afraid if i don't have a separate vent line from the one at the septic tank, then it won't flush properly because this bathroom is on the first floor.
