: I recently discovered that my 22 year old custom home does not have a pressure regulator. The pressure at the hose bib is 105 pounds, and in the second story bathrooms 85 pounds.

: In preparation for the installation of a pressure regulator, I discovered that the main water line connects to a 3/4" copper line that runs for approximately 5 feet and then enlarges to a 1" copper line when entering the house. I am trying to determine if it is necessary to replace the 3/4" line. Does the reduction to 3/4" for a distance of 5 feet alter the water flow to the extent that replacement is necessary?? My house has 5 bathrooms.

Evan,
That short distance of 3/4" should have much affect at that water pressure.
Most meters are 3/4" anyway. It's when more distance is added that the friction starts to build up.
Your pressure reducer is in the home and is a 1"?
You will need to install an expansion tank also.
