: We had around 3 inches of rain 2 days ago and my sump pump is still running. Is this normal? The pipe that discharges water from the sump sticks out from the outside of the house is only 8 inces long. Is that right? Please help. Reply:
The ground is saturated.
It is normal, as long as while the pump is running, there is water discharging from the stub out pipe.
You may be re-pumping water that is being discharged if it is soaking back into the ground and re-appearing in the sump.
Make sure that the discharge pipe stubbing out of the house is letting the water get carried away from house, extend it if needed.
