: looking at installing one of those water pressure boosting systems...Home Despot has one form Flotec for $300, says it will boost pressure another 40 PSI over what we have.

: Any thoughts on putting in one of these? We've got mostly old galv. pipes, so I worry the increased pressure may just blow them up (or cause other issues)

Clogged galv lines could be your main preoblem.
The piping system should be checked first to see if a booster would help.
I cannot speak for the Flotec unit but I have installed Amtrols version, it increased the pressure by 40 lbs. as well. The installation is not that involved; water & 110 V.
The increase in water pressure may or may not create problems with the existing galv. water lines, it depends on the existing condition. Under normal conditions, it shouldn't.
Good Luck. e-plumber
