Spraying the apartment won't do any good except to pollute the place. Yes, cockroaches can and do enter buildings through all types of drains (floor trains, toilets, water fountains, sinks, etc.)

Some drains don't have p-traps, which were designed to hold water, thus preventing sewer gases from entering. The other benefit to p-traps is that they (when filled) physically prevent the large cockroaches that enter from the sewer systems.

If a p-trap leaks and does not maintain a water seal, bugs and sewer gas will enter. If there is no p-trap...the same thing.

: : I live in an apartment building in Las Vegas, and I think there are cockroaches coming up through my bathroom tub drain. I have only ever seen 4 huge bugs in this apartment. One was on a suitcase from the back of a cab (there you go), and the other three were in the bathtub.

: : Is it possible they are coming up through the drain? And if I use drano, aren't I clearing the way for them? Please help - I am scared to go in there!

: It is possible for bugs to come up through the drain pipes, you should contact the landlord to have an exterminator spray the apartment ASAP, it's only going to get worse until it's done.
: Using Drano will possibly damage the piping, it won't really clear the way for the bugs to enter but it will definetely help kill them.
: Good Luck. e-plumber
