: : How do I remove the old drain in the bath tub to rplace it with a new one. I can't get the old push and turn drain system out to put the new one in.

: The old tub waste may need to be cut out for removal, occaisionally you will be able to unscrew the strainer from the shoe, there is a tool for this which rarely works.
: The old strainer is sliced, then removed.
: Use caution while cutting not to damage the bathtub.

Hi. I'm just starting to tackle the same problem. The stopper system is completely non-functional at the moment (as well as badly discolored) and I just want to replace it with a standard overflow cover plate and use a plug in the drain.
The diagram you posted looks exactly like the drain arrangement in my bathtub - except of course that I can't see the part behind the tub. I don't want to have to re-tile the wall to get in behind the tub.
Am I right in interpreting your answer to mean that I should cut off the arm of the drain lever behind the plate? Where will that mechanism go once it's cut?
And will I be able to get the old drain out?
