: I have recently purchased an 11 year old house. Both bathtubs have what I think are called foot lock drains. The one tub I use was working fine until I knocked against the drain plug thing with my foot. Since then, the water drains out very slowly. At the end of my shower, I am standing in water! I have tried the baking soda/vinegar/water solution, to no avail, so I don't think it is a clog. How does this type of drain plug work? Can I fix it or do I need to sell my first-born child and hire a plumber? Please help. Thanks, J
I would first try taking the drain piece out. These type drains tend to collect hair and soap scum in places you can't see. Grasp the large drain part of the drain with channel locks and with another pair of channel locks, remove the smaller top knob. Under the smaller top knob there should be a brass screw, hex head bolt, ot something similar. Remove this and the drain piece should come out. Clean and see if this helps. If not call a plumber to auger out that tub drain.
