|In response to Re: new well isn't running clear|
: Hi. We have a wonderful new home with a big problem. It has been two weeks and our well is still not providing clear/clean water. We don't even know what steps to take. Do we take a sample somewhere to find out what is causing this brown water? Did the well driller do something wrong? Do we need to buy a water filter? If so what kind? Thanks for any advice.
Is the water actually brown muddy or orangish rusty? That makes a difference. Muddy can be caused by many things, one is that the well wasn't developed properly. Rusty can be iron in the water or from the type of plumbing you have, like galvanized pipe or fittings and an acidic/aggressive water causing them to rust.
A water analysis should be done and then call the well driler and discuss this with them. They may tell you to run the water through a garden hose somewhere that doesn't errode the yard etc.. Sometimes you have to run the water for a number of days but, you have to make sure you don't run the well out of water and damage the pump. If it is a water quality problem you wouldn't want to run the water for days.
