|In response to Re: Aging a water heater.|
The first letter is the month A is January, etc, except I is not used, so J is September. The two numbers after it are the year. In your situation, I would shut the water supply off between occupancies since there could be many reasons for having an indoor swimming pool if you are not there. One of the easiest ways would be to have an electric valve in the line that opens when you flip a switch upon arriving.
: I have a house used only on weekends, with a Reliance water heater of unknown age. Can I tell the age from serial numbers? Should I replace the heater at some time to avoid arriving home to an indoor swimming pool?
