If the heater is upstairs it should have a drain pan, with a proper discharge pipe, under it. This would eliminate the need for a concrete, or any other non-wood, support. The leak should have been discovered and fixed long before it could have damaged the heater support.

: Hi,...A plumber I talked to about installing a new gas water heater said that he uses a lightweight concrete platform underneath, instead of a wood platform which we now have. Our old platform is rotting due to a leak in one of the copper pipes. Our heater will be 50 gal.
: and goes in a second-story storage room of our house.
: Can anyone tell me more about this lightweight concrete platform, how much they weigh, etc. Any help or thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated.
