That's just what I've experienced. The stem was mostly stripped, so I got a "fit all" type handle which has worked ok for 2yrs, but now it is completely stripped and we need all new stems. In both bathrooms. Oh well it worked for a while... : If the handle is stripped buy a new one that fits your stem. If the stem is stripped, a "fit all" handle will work for a time but will eventually strip it further, until you reach the point where you need a new stem and handle.
