Video is indeed the best option. That's how we
found a broken sewer line in our previous house.
Not good news but it told us exactly where it was.

Your problem can also be caused by tree roots,
concrete residue that ended up in the line etc.
Last time we had a serious backup in our 1971 house
we live in right now it was under the street, so
the county took care of that at no charge.
