If I had to guess, I would suspect that you have an "aeration" type system with an air compressor that circulates air through the tank to aid digestion. If so, then the sound is normal, although if the pump is setting on a hard surface you could be getting sound transferance through the ground and a rubber or resilient mount would minimize or eliminate the sound.
: I have purchased a house that has a septic system that makes "growling" noises - sounds like a beast with an upset stomach! The system was cleaned and inspected as a condition of purchase - no problems were found. Can you tell me why it grumbles and growls?
