steps to fix a leak from a bathroom sink from, below

I see that my bathroom sink leaks from the threaded chrome pipe as it goes into the bowl through the brass fitting from below :(. I removed the ptrap section leaving only the chrome tube. I attempted to tighten the pipe a bit but it turns the drain at the same time. Is there a way to tighten the pipe and keep the drain from turning? Maybe I should loosen the pipe completely and then use the plumbers tape and then retighten with new plumbers tape. Thanks for the advice, Doug
