I've never soldered that large of a pipe, but it should work fine. The "trick" is to get the entire joint hot enough to melt the solder. You will want to have a pipe wrench on the piece you are removing so when it does break loose you can keep it loose while the old solder resets. Remember, that pipe will be hotter 'n Hell!
