Which direction does it go in? If it goes vertical then it is an air chamaber to minimize water hammer from the washing machine. If is horizontal, it could be a future connection for aa washing machine faucet, or some other usage. : I have noticed that some plumbers will have a short branch of copper pipe coming off of the line to laundry tubs which just stops and is capped off. It doesn't go anywhere. I have seen this in a lot of houses. What does this do?
