: I took off the handle and the packing nut, but I can't get the stem to budge. What are the steps for removing the stem, changing the washer, and replacing the packing? I don't want to make it worse. According to this link for disassembling a freeze proof faucet http://www.familyhandyman.com/199910/you_can_fix_it/main2.html try re-attaching the handle after removing the packing nut and turning the stem counterclockwise. They also mention a firm tug. I didn't see any packing in their pictures, may be just washers and o-rings. Waiting til nobody needs water in the house, to try this. Our faucet spews around the handle when the tap's open. Good luck. Let me know how it goes. billybarty@hotmail.com
