: I have a drain in my utility room that is producing a foul odor. I have drained my hot water tank into the drain so that the water is not stagnet and I still have the terrible odor. My home is connected to a septic system that seems to be working fine. Also the outdoor temperature has been 90+ for over 3 weeks. Is there anything I can add to the drain to stop the odor. I have temporarily covered the drain but that hasn't worked.

Gail, you may have another problem. If there is a plumber in your town that can do a smoke test on your home have him do it and it will find all leaks in the drain, waste and vent system. You may have a dry trap,a cracked vent line,or a bad wax seal on the toilet. The smoke test will find the problem.
