It's pretty well accepted that soldering is superior to compression joints. A propane torch is not overly expensive and soldering a joint that will hold isn't rocket science either. If you get the basic supplies, and learn to sweat a fitting, sooner or later you will have more uses. My first attempt to solder was installing an air supply system for my air compressor. I'll be the first to admit that the first joints were butt ugly! In fact, my joints today aren't professional appearing. But, bottom line is on the air system, I had one leak. The water lines I've install since, never leak. Except the one I forgot to flux!
