You have to check in the "hole". If there is water there, then the pump is either not pumping it out, or there is a continuous flow of water into the pit. If there is very little water in the pit, then the switch could have broken or is malfunctioning. : We bought a 14 year old house last spring that has a sump pump. The sump pump normally only runs occaisionally, but today it started to run almost constantly. What could be the problem?
