Since the toilet is bolted to the flange, the process of tightening the bolts can pull the flange up against the toilet if the pipe is not secure under the floor. It is mentioned in the plumbing codes, but is not always done in the real world unless the pipe is definitely loose. The problem being, that the opening around the pipe is often larger than the screw circle for attaching it.
: I noticed on one entry you mentioned that the flange should be secured to the floor. What is the best way to secure to slab flooring?
