You must use black iron (not steel) On the exposed pipe, wrap it with the special wrap made for that purpose. Put a valve where you branch from the original line and another at the appliance end. Run the flex gas connecting line to the appliance. There is a special teflon joint tape for gas lines. It a bit heavier than tape for water. Tighten all connection, the with the valve at the appliance end closed, turn the gas into the line. Take undiluted liquid dish washing detergent and apply it to each joint. Watch carefully for bubbles. If any appear, retighten the joint. When all appears OK, fire up the appliance.
