my bathtub faucet leaks

Hello Terry, I was hoping you might provide some advice on fixing a leaky faucet in my tub. I can't seem to get the actual faucet off the tub. I've replaced the hot and cold and diverter handles and still leaks. I purchased a new faucet part and can't seem to twist this portion off. The directions state to insert pliers and twist but I do this as hard as hard as I can and it won't budge. I turned the water off yeserday and worked on it for maybe 3 hours on and off to no avail. Am I doing something wrong here ? Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated. - rich
