The top of the tank should be at least as deep as your basement floor, so it would take a very long probe in soft ground to go that deep. Your best solution is to have a pipe locator come and find it electronically. : Can anybody tell me how to find a septic tank in a 1942 farm house. The previous owner has moved out of state and no way to contact him. I have a toilet in the basement so the tank should be about 8 feet below ground level. Is there a way to locate it with out digging up the whole darn yard. I have probed where I thing or where it should be but cant seen to locate anything down there. Any HELP?
