Blue stuff in my water heater

Wanna hear something weird? I had a bad water heater which I had to drain before hauling it up the stairs & out to the street. It was less than a year old. As it got to the bottom, a bunch of blue jelly-like particles came out of it. Little glops like peas. Maybe it's "Blue-bleck" I never did figure out what they were or why they were in the water heater.
