Paul:--There is a closet flange made just for the purpose you have discussed. This would need to be purchased at a full service Plumbing Supply House(I doubt any Home Centers would have it).
It is designed to simply slide down the inside of an existing 4" closet bend, when it is flush to the floor, four screws are tigtened down to expand a neoprene gasket that will seal it to the existing closet bend. Screwing ths new flange to the floor woiuld also be a good idea.
Lots of luck...Bud

I am replacing tile and need (I think) to raise the existing flange. How?

: I removed 1/4" ceramic tile, installed 1/4" underlay boards and plan to lay 1/4" ceramic tile. (new floor will be 1/4"-3/8" thicker than old floor).

: Existing flange is PVC - with adhesive to 4"(?) lead pipe. Can I get a spacer to lay on top of existing flange? Need to remove the old and add a new flange?
