You can do either. Sometimes it is easier to cut the pipe first so you do not have to slide the flange down the excess pipe. : One more minor clarification... : I have a 3" toilet drain extending 3-4" above the plywood subfloor. I am installing 1x1" mosaic ceramic tile. Do I cut the drain down to the plywood, flush with the tile, or do I install the tile and flange first, and THEN cut the drain pipe down flush with the flange??? : ARGH! So close to finishing...
