The buildup in the shower drain may be soap. Solutions to the build up in the pipe would include snaking the drain with a small hand snake, (hair in the line is a big problem here) and using a drain cleaner that works on soap build up.
To test the pan for leaks, put a stopper in the drain, then fill with a bucker about 3" inches high and let set.
If it leaks, then it is the pan.
Other places to check for caulking would be around the faucet trim, doors, and corners of the shower.
