Jerry:--Black iron pipe is pretty much a thing of the past for underground gas distribution piping. Check with your local Gas or Building Department for what is allowed by current code. Many jurisdictions are allowing HDPE for gas transmission lines with mechanically connected(push-on) anodeless risers. If my area 30" of cover is required over the gas line. This is by far the fastest and easiest means of running a gas line I've ever come across. Lots of luck...Bud PS. Tubing generally comes in 500'rolls for the smaller diameters...but hunt around for someone that is willing to sell you just the amount needed.
