Arlene:--Most plumbers have an assortment of favorite tools that they accumulate over a period of time for just such occassioms that you mention in your post.
I'm not quite sure I understand what it is that is stripped on the cold water seat ??? Is it the center of the seat that has been wallowed out in an attempt to remove it ??? or is the seat actually spinning around in the valve body ??
In either event, the selection of the right removal tool is the key to success. If you opt to use an easy-out type extractor, remember it is easy to knock a hole in the back side of the valve body if you tap it to far into the errant seat.
You may be able to get what you need to do the job at a loca tool rental place...Lots of luck Bud.........
