Plumber's putty for china repair

I have a china teapot from which the bottom broke off and detached. I repaired the china with LePage's China Weld, which resored its appearance, but the teapot leaked a bit where the China Weld did not completely seal the crack.

I put a bead of plumber's putty around the bottom of the pot on the inside, and that has stopped the leak and the teapot looks and works as good as new.

The question is, Is the plumber's putty toxic, and is it safe to make tea in the teapot and drink the tea?
