Zone Valve

I've got a Honeywell zone valve P/N V 8043E1012 in a two zone hot water system. This valve does not respond to the thermostat commands ( can I test the valve someway? ) Anyway Honeywell offers "Powerhead Assy." replacement. P/N 40003916-026. Any thoughts; been hearing that I should just get rid of the Honeywells and look at White Rogers. TIA
