It's necessary since the vent location is one way, and the stack is the other and there are floor joists that I would rather not notch. Can you vent 'upstream' on a branch drain (the trap arm length in this case is less than 1 foot).
Rob, Most plumbing inspectors would pass this. But the proper way is to have the wye rolled up(where you have the trap arm) and a st 45 come out of the wye and then out the roof for the vent.The pipe size should be 2".(trap arm) (vent 1-1/2")The vent where you have it should be the trap arm.But what you have drawn will work just fine.
